Short title, commencement and application

1. (1) This Act may be called the Delhi Members of Metropolitan Council (Enhancement of Pension) Act, 2000.

(2)It shall come into force on the date of its public^^ion in the official Gazette. (3)It shall apply to Members of the erstwhile Metropolitan Council, Delhi (hereinafter referred to as "the

Members of Metropolitan Council") receiving pension under the Members of Metropolitan Council (Salaries and Allowances) Qrder, 1966 issued under section 21 of the Delhi Administration Act, 1966 (19 of 1966).

2,Enhancement of Pension to Members of Metropolitan Council—(1) A member of the Metropolitan Council who has completed a minimufe term of five years shall receive a pension of one thousand rupees per mensem. For every year in excess of five years, he shall receive additional pension of two hundred rupees per mensem for each such year or part thereof exceeding six months, subject to a maximum pension of two thousand rupees per mensem.

(2) A member who opts to draw pension under this Act, he shall be deemed to have chosen not to receive pension under sub-paragraph (1) of clause 7 of the Members of Metropolitan Council (Salaries and Allowances and Pension) Order, 1966 but the pension paid under this Act shall continue to be subject to the same terms'and conditions governing pension in the said Order.
