Bare Act
The Registration Dadra and Nagar Haveli and Daman and Diu (Amendment) Act, 1985
This Act amends the Indian Registration Act of 1908 to improve the registration process for property and legal documents in the Union Territories of Dadra and Nagar Haveli and Daman and Diu. It updates definitions to include marital status and electronic books, and introduces a new definition for a "tout" who solicits registration work. The law expands the types of documents that must be registered, such as specific property sale agreements and power of attorney transfers where possession is handed over. It also mandates that true copies accompany documents and allows the state government to refuse registration of documents deemed against public policy. Finally, it requires the person claiming under a property sale document to sign it before registration.
