Bare Act
The Goa, Daman and Diu Toddy Tappers Welfare Fund Act, 1984
This legislation establishes a social security and compensation framework for registered workers engaged in extracting and distilling palm or coconut juice, known as toddy tappers, within the Union territory of Goa, Daman and Diu. It creates a dedicated welfare fund managed by a newly constituted Toddy Tappers Welfare Fund Board, jointly financed through monthly contributions from both the tappers and the government. The law primarily protects these high-risk agricultural workers by guaranteeing financial compensation in the event of work-related accidents resulting in disabling injuries. By institutionalizing safety guidelines and financial support, it ensures essential economic security for a vulnerable occupational community.
