Manual of Goa Laws (Vol. 1) – 381 – Anatomy Act
The Goa, Daman and Diu Anatomy Act, 1976
Health197610 sections
This Act regulates the handling of unclaimed dead bodies within the Union territory of Goa, Daman and Diu. It empowers the government to appoint authorised officers to manage these cases. When a person dies in a hospital, prison, or public place and their body is unclaimed, the relevant authorities must report it to the authorised officer. The officer then transfers the body to an approved institution for therapeutic purposes or for anatomical examination and dissection. The law ensures that unclaimed remains are used for medical or scientific benefit rather than being neglected.
