The Industrial Disputes (Bihar Amendment) Act, 2020
This Act modifies labor regulations in the state of Bihar to encourage economic recovery and new industrial investment following the disruption caused by the COVID-19 pandemic. It applies to industrial establishments and businesses operating within Bihar. Under the revised laws, the threshold for requiring government approval before laying off employees, retrenching staff, or closing an enterprise is increased from one hundred to three hundred workers. Additionally, the state government can exempt newly established industries from various labor law provisions for up to one thousand days. By granting greater operational flexibility to employers, the law aims to attract fresh investments and spur local job creation.
