Bihar Official Language Act, 1950
1. Short title, extent and commencement
(1) This Act may be called the Bihar Official Language Act, 1950. (2) It extends to the whole of the State of Bihar. (3) It shall come into force on such date as the State Government may by notification appoint for different parts of the State. Provided that the date or dates appointed by the State Government under this subsection in respect of any of parts of the State shall not be later than seven years from the date on which this Act with the assent thereto of the competent authority is first published in the official Gazette.
2. Official language
Subject to the provisions of Articles 346, 347 and 348 of the Constitution of India, the language to be used for the official purposes of the State shall be Hindi in Devanagari script.

Whereas it is expedient to provide for the adoption of Hindi in Devanagari script as the language to be used for official purposes of the State of Bihar; It is hereby enacted as follows:--
