REGULATION (AMENDMENT) ACT, 2023
The Assam Frontier (Administration of Justice) Regulation (Amendment) Act, 2005
The Assam Frontier (Administration of Justice) Regulation (Amendment) Act, 2023, is a legislative update designed to formalize and streamline the administration of justice within the State of Arunachal Pradesh. It retroactively validates administrative changes dating back to 1987. The Act empowers traditional village councils—known as Village Authorities—to resolve local disputes, ensuring that customary practices are integrated into the legal framework. It establishes a clear appellate hierarchy, allowing citizens to appeal decisions from village councils to Customary Courts and, subsequently, to the formal state judiciary (Judicial Magistrates and Sessions Judges). This ensures that while local traditions are respected, citizens retain access to formal legal remedies.
