The Arunachal Pradesh University (Amendment) Act, 1993
1. Short title and commencement
Short title and commencement
- (1) This Act may be called the Arunachal Pradesh University (Amendment) Act, 1993.
- (2) It shall come into force on such date as the State Government may, by notification in the Official Gazette, appoint.
2. Amendment of section 2
Amendment of section 2 In section 2 of the Arunachal Pradesh University Act, 1984 (Act No. 3 of 1984), for clause (g), the following clause shall be substituted, namely:—
- (g) "Principal" means the head of a college or institution recognized or maintained by the University and includes, where there is no principal, the person for the time being duly appointed to act as the head of the college or institution.
3. Amendment of section 5
Amendment of section 5.— In the Arunachal Pradesh University Act, 1984 (hereinafter referred to as the principal Act), in section 5, for sub-section (1), the following shall be substituted, namely:—
- (1) The University shall, save as otherwise provided in this Act, have the powers to provide for instruction in such branches of learning as the University may think fit, and to make provision for research and for the advancement and dissemination of knowledge.
4. Amendment of section 7
Amendment of section 7.— In the principal Act, in section 7, for sub-section (1), the following shall be substituted, namely:—
- (1) The University shall be open to persons of either sex and of whatever race, creed, caste or class, and it shall not be lawful for the University to adopt or impose on any person any test whatsoever of religious belief or profession in order to entitle him to be admitted thereto as a teacher or student, or to hold any office therein, or to graduate thereat, or to enjoy or exercise any privilege thereof: Provided that nothing in this section shall be deemed to prevent the University from making special provisions for the employment or admission of women, persons with disabilities or of persons belonging to the weaker sections of the society and, in particular, of the Scheduled Castes and the Scheduled Tribes.
5. Amendment of section 20
-1 5. Amendment of section 20.—In section 20 of the principal Act, for the words "The Vice-Chancellor shall be a whole-time officer of the University and shall be appointed by the Chancellor", the words "The Vice-Chancellor shall be a whole-time officer of the University and shall be appointed by the Chancellor from a panel of names recommended by a Search Committee consisting of three members, one of whom shall be nominated by the Executive Council and two by the Chancellor, and one of the persons so nominated by the Chancellor shall be the Chairman of the Committee" shall be substituted.
