The Andhra Pradesh University Acts, (Amendment) Act, 1989

Short title and commencement.—(1) This Act may be called the Andhra Pradesh University Acts (Amendment) Act, 1989.

1. (2) It shall be deemed to have come into force on the 24th May, 1989.

Amendment of section 2.—In section 2 of the Andhra Pradesh Universities Act, 1980 (hereinafter referred to as the principal Act),—

1. (a) for clause (2), the following clause shall be substituted, namely:— “(2) ‘Academic Council’ means the Academic Council of the University;”;
2. (b) for clause (9), the following clause shall be substituted, namely:— “(9) ‘College’ means a college established or maintained by, or affiliated to, or recognised by the University, in accordance with the provisions of this Act and the statutes;”.

Amendment of Act 4 of 1976. — In the Andhra University Act, 1976, in section 25, in sub-section (1), for clause (a), the following clause shall be substituted, namely:—

1. (a) the Chancellor;

Amendment of Act 9 of 1976.—In the Andhra Pradesh Universities Act, 1976, for section 21, the following section shall be substituted, namely:—

"21. The Academic Council.—(1) The Academic Council shall be the academic body of the University and shall, subject to the provisions of this Act and the statutes, have the power of control and general regulation of, and be responsible for the maintenance of standards of instruction, education and examination of the University and shall exercise such other powers and perform such other duties as may be conferred or imposed upon it by the statutes.

1. (2) The constitution of the Academic Council and the term of office of its members shall be prescribed by the statutes."

Amendment of Act 17 of 1976.—In the Andhra University Act, 1925, in section 21, in sub-section (1), for clause (c), the following clause shall be substituted, namely:—

1. (c) three teachers representing the teachers of affiliated colleges in the University area, to be nominated by the Government.

Amendment of Act 20 of 1976.—In the Sri Venkateswara University Act, 1954, in section 21, in sub-section (1), for clause (c), the following clause shall be substituted, namely:—

1. (c) three teachers representing the teachers of affiliated colleges in the University area, to be nominated by the Government.

Amendment of Act 21 of 1976.—In the Andhra Pradesh Universities Act, 1976,—

1. (1) in section 2, for clause (a), the following clause shall be substituted, namely:—
   • (a) "Academic Council" means the Academic Council of the University;
2. (2) in section 4, sub-section (2), for clause (i), the following clause shall be substituted, namely:—
   • (i) to admit colleges to the privileges of the University and to withdraw such privileges;
3. (3) in section 17, in sub-section (1), for the words "The Vice-Chancellor shall be appointed by the Chancellor from a panel of three names", the words "The Vice-Chancellor shall be appointed by the Chancellor from a panel of three persons" shall be substituted;
4. (4) in section 24, for sub-section (1), the following sub-section shall be substituted, namely:—

(1) The Academic Council shall be the academic body of the University and shall, subject to the provisions of this Act and the statutes, have the control and general regulation, and be responsible for the maintenance of standards of instruction, education and examination in the University and shall exercise such other powers and perform such other duties as may be conferred or imposed upon it by the statutes.

Amendment of Act 22 of 1976.—In the Andhra Pradesh Universities Act, 1976,—

1. (1) in section 2, for clause (a), the following clause shall be substituted, namely:—
   • (a) "Academic Council" means the Academic Council of the University;
2. (2) in section 4, sub-section (2), for clause (i), the following clause shall be substituted, namely:—
   • (i) to admit colleges to the privileges of the University and to withdraw such privileges;
3. (3) in section 17, in sub-section (1), for the words "The Vice-Chancellor shall be appointed by the Chancellor from a panel of three names", the words "The Vice-Chancellor shall be appointed by the Chancellor from a panel of three persons" shall be substituted;
4. (4) in section 24, for sub-section (1), the following sub-section shall be substituted, namely:—

Amendment of Act 24 of 1976. — In the Andhra Pradesh Universities (Affiliation Board) Act, 1976, in section 3, in sub-section (1), for the words "The Vice-Chancellor of each of the Universities", the words "The Vice-Chancellor of each of the Universities in the State except the Telugu University" shall be substituted.

Repeal of Ordinance 5 of 1989. — The Andhra Pradesh University Acts (Amendment) Ordinance, 1989 is hereby repealed.
