Chapter I PRELIMINARY

Short title, extent and commencement.

1. (1) This Act may be called the Andhra Pradesh Road Development Corporation Act, 1998.
2. (2) It extends to the whole of the State of Andhra Pradesh.
3. (3) It shall come into force on such date as the Government may, by notification in the Andhra Pradesh Gazette, appoint.

Definitions. In this Act, unless the context otherwise requires,—

1. (a) “Corporation” means the Andhra Pradesh Road Development Corporation established under section 3;
2. (b) “Government” means the State Government of Andhra Pradesh;
3. (c) “Local Authority” includes a Municipal Corporation, Municipal Council, Nagar Panchayat, Zilla Praja Parishad, Mandal Praja Parishad or Gram Panchayat constituted under the relevant law for the time being in force;
4. (d) “National Highway” means any road which is for the time being declared as a National Highway under section 2 of the National Highways Act, 1956;
5. (e) “Prescribed” means prescribed by rules made under this Act;
6. (f) “Road” means a road whether or not a highway, which is declared as a State Highway or a Major District Road by the Government and includes,—
   • (i) all lands acquired for the purpose of such road;
   • (ii) all bridges, culverts, tunnels, causeways, carriageways, footways, side-drains and other works constructed on, under or ancillary to such road;
   • (iii) all other structures and works constructed on, under or ancillary to such road;
7. (g) “Road Development” means carrying out of all or any of the works related to improvement, maintenance, management, operation and development of roads;
8. (h) “Regulations” means regulations made under this Act.
