Andhra Pradesh Irrigation (Construction and Maintenance of Water Courses) Act, 1965
The Andhra Pradesh Irrigation (Construction and Maintenance of Water Courses) Act, 1965
The Andhra Pradesh Irrigation (Construction and Maintenance of Water Courses) Act, 1965 establishes rules for constructing and maintaining irrigation and drainage channels in Andhra Pradesh. It applies to landowners in irrigation command areas, obligating them to build, maintain, and fund the water courses supplying their fields or discharging excess water. If farmers fail to act, government officers can acquire necessary land, construct the channels, and recover costs from beneficiaries. This Act matters because it guarantees systematic water distribution, prevents flooding, and protects agricultural productivity by ensuring functional irrigation infrastructure.
