Bare Act
The Andhra Pradesh (Andhra Area) Inams (Abolition and Conversion into Ryotwari) Act, 1956
Civil195617 sections
The Andhra Pradesh (Andhra Area) Inams (Abolition and Conversion into Ryotwari) Act, 1956 abolishes the historical inam system of tax-free land grants and converts these properties into direct ryotwari tenure. Applying to traditional landholders, tenant farmers, and religious or charitable institutions in the Andhra region, this law regulates how official land ownership titles, known as ryotwari pattas, are granted. It reinstates wrongfully evicted tenants, secures permanent occupancy rights, and bars civil courts from overturning revenue administration decisions. Ultimately, the Act replaces feudal intermediary privileges with direct land ownership and tax obligations to the state.
