31. Veterinary and Animal Sciences Education

Education, Research and Extension Education Organizations
- (1) Subject to provisions of this Act, education in the University shall include Diploma, Bachelor's, Master's and Doctoral degree programmes and short-term diploma or certificate courses in the disciplines of veterinary and animal sciences and allied sciences as prescribed.
- (2) The educational programmes would maintain congruence with the State and national policies.
- (3) The University shall put in place initiatives for e-learning, distributed or distance education, Information and Communication Technology-enabled knowledge sharing etc..
- (4) Programmes of veterinary and animal sciences education should aim at producing competent and skilled professionals.
- (5) The University shall put in place initiatives for continuing veterinary education and training programmes for veterinarians and Para-veterinarians.

32. Training and certificate courses shall also be available for rural educated youth, farmers, farm women and animal owners of weaker sections of the society.

Veterinary and Animal Sciences Research Organization
- (1) Subject to the provisions of this Act and the Statutes, the University shall establish a Veterinary and Animal Sciences Research Organization for doing basic research on problems primarily relating to veterinary, animal husbandry, fisheries and allied subjects for the purpose of aiding the development of animal husbandry and fisheries and shall for this purpose establish as many veterinary, livestock and fisheries research stations as may be necessary in co-operation with the Department of Animal Husbandry, the Department of Fisheries and the Research Stations under the control of the Government.
- (2) The Veterinary and Animal Sciences Research Organization shall be developed under the guidance of the Director of Research.

33. Veterinary and Animal Sciences Extension Education Organization
Statutory text
- (1) Subject to the provisions of this Act and the Statutes, the University shall establish a Veterinary and Animal Sciences Extension Education Organization which shall make available the information obtained on the basis of research to students, extension workers, livestock farmers, fish farmers and fishermen and shall conduct demonstration and training programmes for the benefit of such persons in co-operation with the government departments concerned.
- (2) The University shall undertake such veterinary and animal sciences extension activities as are necessary-
- (a) to inform and demonstrate to the livestock farmers, fish farmers and fishermen the findings and developments of research on improved practices essential to uplift the conditions of the rural living;
- (b) to increase animal production with special emphasis on food productions and utilization;
- (c) to multiply the new breeds and improved strains evolved or introduced by the Veterinary and Animal Sciences Research Organization; and
- (d) to establish veterinary clinics to inform and demonstrate to field veterinarians the newer technology in the field of clinical subjects as well as to train the students in rural health management of livestock.
- (3) The Veterinary and Animal Sciences Extension Organization shall be developed under the guidance of the Director of Extension Education.

34. Integration of teaching, research and extension

- (1) In consultation with the appropriate officers of the University, the Vice-Chancellor shall be responsible for taking such steps as may be necessary for the full integration of teaching, research and extension activities of the University.
- (2) Every faculty member borne on teaching cadre shall devote some time not exceeding thirty percent and as decided by the Vice-Chancellor in consultation with the appropriate officers of the University in an academic year for undertaking research or extension or both besides teaching. Likewise a faculty member borne on research or extension shall spend some time in teaching.
- (3) All teaching, research and extension staff located in the University shall be under the administrative control of respective University officers.
- (4) The University shall develop its programme of research and extension keeping in view the regional needs of the State and provide the appropriate technological back to the Government and other stakeholders.
